Congratulations to Lamborghini Beverly Hills’ Edoardo Piscopo and Taylor Proto for their win at Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Race 1 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on Saturday, September 8th.

The race began with Loris Spinelli in the No. 71 P1 Motorsports Lamborghini Broward leading the field of 18 cars to speed by taking the green flag. However, the race was red-flagged after a violent accident from Sheena Monk in the No. 7 Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO at the famous Corkscrew at the 2.238-mile turn.

With only 12 minutes remaining in the race after the red flag, the mandatory pit window opened, and teams had to decide whether to pit immediately or wait until the mandatory stop.

While many leaders pulled into the pits, Piscopo, in the No. 50 US RaceTronics Lamborghini Beverly Hills, stayed out and took the lead. According to Piscopo, it was a strategic decision. “It was a great car and strategy today. After the start, I lost a place, but kept my focus and pushed as much as I could because I knew we could win.” Piscopo entered the pits with just over two minutes remaining, still in the lead while other cars circled the track.

Proto took over for Piscopo during the pit stop, and was still in the lead when the yellow was thrown. “We got really lucky with that yellow,” explained Proto. “We expected there to be a traffic jam the second any one came into the pits and then more people came in groups. So, we decided to wait until the last minute and it worked out for us.”

The team’s strategy paid off, as they went on to take the checkered flag. The victory marked the team’s third win in the last four races, extending their class lead to seven points (110-103).
